Description
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) was established by the Tourism Act 2011 (Act 817). The GTA is the main governmental agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture responsible for promoting sustainable development of the tourism industry both locally and internationally. The Upper West Ghana Tourism Authority Regional Office was created in 1994.

As the implementing agency of tourism policies, the authority regulates tourism enterprises such as accommodation, food and beverage, travel and tour and charter flight operations through registration, inspection, classification, and licensing.

In addition, the GTA Regional Office promotes and markets tourism both in and outside the region through publication of tourism promotional materials, participation in fairs and exhibitions and organization of special events. It is also the role of the GTA Regional Office to carry out research and studies on trends in the tourism industry both at tourist sites and accommodation establishments to aid decision-making.

Our vision as an Authority is to be the main driver for the growth of tourism and to see Upper West Region become the leading sustainable tourist destination in Ghana by 2026. The Ghana Tourism Authority is committed to service excellence, building a highly motivated and dedicated staff, responsible tourism, fairness, transparency and accountability, stakeholder partnerships and the preservation of our cultural heritage.
